Eyelid surgery also known as an eye lift, in the medical terms is also known as blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery is a popular cosmetic plastic surgery to remove excess skin, fat or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. The surgery can also treat another medical problem called ptosis. Ptosis is known as the condition of drooping eyelid, which is caused by poor muscle tone or nerve damage. Ptosis causes the eyelids to hang very low and block vision.
Drooping eyebrows or wrinkles cannot be treated through eyelid surgery; only drooping eyelids can be treated. Eyelid surgery improves baggy skin under the eyes, sinking upper eyelids or drooping eyelashes that impair vision. Often blepharoplasty is performed with another cosmetic surgery like facelift or brow lift in order to improve droopy eyebrows, facial sagging and crow’s feet. Another method, called the transcutaneous technique requires an incision along the eyelash margin. Through the incision, excess skin, loose muscle and fat can be removed. The incision line fades after a short amount of time.
